The Making of Railroads
Railroads helped build America. "The railroads needed steel for their rails and cars." If you look at the countries, like England, that controlled iron, they are more technologically advanced than the countries that didn't. England was able to build railroads to transport there goods like machinery from the center of the country to the seas for easier trade. It was faster, safer, and cheaper then cars and horse back was because the trains were traveling at an average speed of 70 mph. "Americans who had visited England to see new steam locomotives were impressed that railroads dropped the cost of shipping by carriage by 60-70%." sourceTrade occurred to many countries like England, France, Germany, some parts of Italy, and the United States Of America. But steel didn't just build trains, it also helped build boats and cars with steel engines. When goods such as lumber, hardware, food, and luxury items were all shipped by boats after being transported to water by train.
Negative Affects
Everything good comes with something bad. Trains allowed transport around and across the country, but they also put people like road builders and car manufactures. Even though building railroads and bridges requires a lot of men, your also putting all the men that was building the alliterative to trains, as in wood or stones bridges, would be let go because of the less amount of there project bought.
The time period that railroads and bridges being made out of cast iron was around the 1850's. The first railroads were paid for by private investors. The investors used slavery to build railroads fast and diligently.
